Fashion Curation – Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL)

08.25.2018 by Susan Bishop //

This year (2018) I was invited to Wimbledon School of Arts to support students in designing their end of year show for final year of BA (Hons) Costume for Theatre and Screen.

I gave a talk about Fashion Curation and the importance of making strategic choices about exhibiting dress. This inspired students to be more thoughtful about their ideas for showing their work.

I then worked with students on the design of the space, displaying their work and telling their story. I am pleased to say it was an excellent exhibition as seen below.

The main points for consideration were the type of mannequins to be used and the adjacencies – whether the costumes should be shown chronologically or placed according to their narrative.

Kevin Freeman, the Course Leader, helped to negotiate with the students to make sure that costumes were displayed in the best configuration.
